I love it when a business is sold to great new people and changes for the good. That is true in the case of Sugar n Spice, formerly Herban Kitchen. Owners Jean and Vero wanted to stick with the French cuisine but realized that they needed something extra to survive in Southern Florida--so they created a cuisine and called it Floridian French.

For those who have dined at the former, Sugar n' Spice is renovated, rejuvenated, and reinvented. There is a large face front bar with seating for about twenty and enough tables to accommodate any size party. With a wonderful palate of colors you can not help but feel bright and cheery while dining there.

I had Calamari and Zucchini Sticks that were good and quick and light. I also had the Chicken and Avocado Salad (salads come in both small and Entree size) that featured poached chicken breast, avocados, mandarin oranges and tomatoes over mixed greens sprinkled with pine nuts. Their Honey Dijion dressing is perfect, light, and does not have the overpowering "mustardy" taste found in other places. I also tried the Chicken Dijionaise which has a whole boneless chicken breast grilled to perfection and topped with a creamy mustard and mushroom sauce. To tell you the truth, they were not skimpy on the chicken and, once again, the sauce was amazing, not at all overpowering.

While their menu is Floridian French, it features a lot of healthy items and localized or Americanized items. Entrees include meats NY Strip, filet mignon, veal, and chicken as well as a wide variety of items from the sea like shrimp, tuna, tilapia, and sole. This is a rather affordable place to eat, most meals come in at $15 to $30. So come in, ask for Jean, and let Vero create something great for you. Article available at jumponmarkslist.com
